08.11 Ps 127:1-2

Ps:127:1 Matkalaulu; Salomon virsi.

Psalm 127:1-2 (AMP)
Prosperity Comes from the Lord.
A Song of [
a]Ascents. Of Solomon.
127 Unless the Lord builds the house,
They labor in vain who build it;
Unless the Lord guards the city,
The watchman keeps awake in vain.
It is vain for you to rise early,
To retire late,
To eat the bread of anxious labors—
For He gives [blessings] to His beloved even in his sleep.

Psalm 127:1-2(AMPC)
A Song of [a]Ascents. Of Solomon.
Except the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; except the Lord keeps the city, the watchman wakes but in vain.
It is vain for you to rise up early, to take rest late, to eat the bread of [anxious] toil—for He gives [blessings] to His beloved in sleep.
Footnotes:
Psalm 127:1 See Psalm 120 title footnote.Psalm 120:1 It is possible that the fifteen psalms (chs 120-134) known as the “Songs of Degrees or Ascents” were sung by the caravans of pilgrims going up to attend the annual feasts at Jerusalem. But it is equally possible that the title has reference to some peculiarity in connection with the music or the manner of using it.

Psalm 127:2 (MSG)
A Pilgrim Song of Solomon
127 1-2 If God doesn’t build the house,
    the builders only build shacks.
If God doesn’t guard the city,
the night watchman might as well nap.
It’s useless to rise early and go to bed late,
and work your worried fingers to the bone.
Don’t you know he enjoys
giving rest to those he loves?

Psalm 127:1-2 (TLB)
127 Unless the Lord builds a house, the builders’ work is useless. Unless the Lord protects a city, sentries do no good.
It is senseless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, fearing you will starve to death; for God wants his loved ones to get their proper rest.
