our sins to the Cross so we could be rid of sin, free to live the right way.

^3-4 God went for
the jugular when he sent his own Son. He didn’t deal with the problem as
something remote and unimportant. In his Son, Jesus, he personally took on the
human condition, entered the disordered mess of struggling humanity in order to
set it right once and for all. The law code, weakened as it always was by
fractured human nature, could never have done that.

The law always ended up being used as a Band-Aid on sin instead of a deep
healing of it. And now what the law code asked for but we couldn’t deliver is
accomplished as we, instead of redoubling our own efforts, simply embrace what
the Spirit is doing in us.

sin’s grasp by knowing the commandments of God because we can’t and don’t keep

revelation was intended simply to get us ready for the Messiah, who then puts
everything right for those who trust him to do it. Moses wrote that anyone who
insists on using the law code to live right before God soon discovers it’s not
so easy—every detail of life regulated by fine print! But trusting God to shape
the right living in us is a different story—no precarious climb up to heaven to
recruit the Messiah, no dangerous descent into hell to rescue the Messiah. So
what exactly was Moses saying?
The word that saves is right here,
as near as the tongue in your mouth,
as close as the heart in your chest.
It’s the word of faith that welcomes God to go to work and set things right for
us. This is the core of our preaching. Say the welcoming word to God—“Jesus is
my Master”—embracing, body and soul, God’s work of doing in us what he did in
raising Jesus from the dead. That’s it. You’re not “doing” anything; you’re
simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That’s salvation.
With your whole being you embrace God setting things right, and then you say
it, right out loud: “God has set everything right between him and me!”

⁵ Or do you suppose that the Scripture is speaking to no
purpose that says, The Spirit Whom He has caused to dwell in us yearns over us and
He yearns for the Spirit [to be welcome] with a jealous love?

⁶ But He gives us more
and more grace (^[a]power of the Holy Spirit, to meet this evil tendency
and all others fully). That is why
He says, God sets Himself against the proud and haughty, but gives grace
