Jaak 4: 4. Te avionrikkojat! Ettekö tiedä, että
maailman ystävyys on vihollisuutta
Jumalaa vastaan. Joka siis tahtoo olla
maailman ystävä, hänestä tulee Jumalan
vihollinen. Ps. 73:27; Matt. 6:24;Room. 8:8
5. Vai luuletteko, että Raamattu turhaan
sanoo: ”Kateuteen asti hän halajaa henkeä, jonka on pannut meihin
asumaan”? 2. Moos. 34:14; Gal. 5:17
6. Mutta vielä suurempi on armo,
jonka
jonka
hän antaa. Siksi Raamattu sanoo:
”Jumala on ylpeitä vastaan,
mutta nöyrille hän antaa armon.”Sananl. 3:34, 29:23; 1. Piet. 5:5,6
James 4:4-6Amplified Bible (AMP)
4 You adulteresses [disloyal sinners—flirting with the
world and breaking your vow to God]! Do you not know that being the world’s
friend [that is, loving the things of the world] is being God’s enemy? So
whoever chooses to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or
do you think that the Scripture says to no purpose [a]that the [human] spirit which He has made to dwell in
us lusts with envy? 6 But
He gives us more and more grace [through the power of the Holy Spirit to defy
sin and live an obedient life that reflects both our faith and our gratitude
for our salvation]. Therefore, it says, “God
is opposed to the proud and haughty,
but [continually] gives
[the gift of] grace to the humble
[who turn away from self-righteousness].”

James 4:5 This verse is
difficult to translate, and it seems that James is paraphrasing or generalizing
a scriptural concept rather than quoting directly from the Old Testament.

4 You [are like] unfaithful wives [having illicit love
affairs with the world and breaking your marriage vow to God]! Do you not know
that being the world’s friend is being God’s enemy? So whoever chooses to be a
friend of the world takes his stand as an enemy of God.
5 Or do you suppose that the Scripture is speaking to no
purpose that says, The Spirit Whom He has caused to dwell in us yearns over us and
He yearns for the Spirit [to be welcome] with a jealous love?
6 But He gives us more
and more grace ([a]power of the Holy Spirit, to meet this evil tendency
and all others fully). That is why
He says, God sets Himself against the proud and haughty, but gives grace
[continually] to the lowly (those who are humble enough to receive it).

James 4:4-6The Message (MSG)
4-6 You’re cheating on God. If all you want is your own
way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God
and his way. And do you suppose God doesn’t care? The proverb has it that “he’s
a fiercely jealous lover.” And what he
gives in love is far better than anything else you’ll find. It’s common
knowledge that “God goes against the willful proud; God gives grace to the
willing humble.”

James 4:4-6Living Bible (TLB)
4 You are like an unfaithful wife who loves her
husband’s enemies. Don’t you realize that making friends with God’s enemies—the
evil pleasures of this world—makes you an enemy of God? I say it again, that if
your aim is to enjoy the evil pleasure of the unsaved world, you cannot also be
a friend of God. 5 Or what do you think the Scripture
means when it says that the Holy Spirit, whom God has placed within us, watches
over us with tender jealousy? 6 But
he gives us more and more strength to stand against all such evil longings.
As the Scripture says, God gives strength to the humble but sets himself
against the proud and haughty.
