It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I
speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life.
AMP Joh 6: 63 It is the Spirit Who gives life [He is the
Life-giver]; the flesh conveys no benefit whatever [there is no profit in it].
The words (truths) that I have been speaking to you are spirit and life.
MSG Joh
6: Too Tough to Swallow 60 Many among his disciples heard this
and said, “This is tough teaching, too tough to swallow.”61-65 Jesus sensed that his disciples were having a hard time with this and said, “Does
this throw you completely? What would happen if you saw the Son of Man
ascending to where he came from? The Spirit can make life. Sheer muscle and
willpower don’t make anything happen. Every word I’ve spoken to you is a
Spirit-word, and so it is life-making. But some of you are resisting, refusing
to have any part in this.” (Jesus knew from the start that some weren’t going
to risk themselves with him. He knew also who would betray him.) He went on to
say, “This is why I told you earlier that no one is capable of coming to me on
his own. You get to me only as a gift from the Father.”
TLBJoh 6: 60 Even his disciples said, “This is very hard to understand. Who can tell what he means?”61 Jesus knew within himself that his disciples were complaining and said to
them, “Does this offend you? 62 Then what will you think if
you see me, the Messiah,[f] return to heaven again? 63 Only the Holy Spirit gives eternal life.[g] Those born only once, with physical birth,* will never receive this gift. But now I have
told you how to get this true spiritual life. 64 But some of you
don’t believe me.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning who didn’t believe and
knew the one who would betray him.)

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord [is], there [is]
liberty.
AMP 2 Kor 3: 16 But whenever a person turns
[in repentance] to the Lord, the veil is stripped off and taken away.17
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and
where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (emancipation from bondage,
freedom).18 And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord,
are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever
increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this
comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit.

MSG 2Kor 3:16-18 Whenever, though, they turn to face
God as Moses did, God removes the veil and there they are—face-to-face! They
suddenly recognize that God is a living,
personal presence, not a piece of chiseled stone. And when God is personally
present, a living Spirit, that old, constricting legislation is recognized as
obsolete. We’re free of it! All of us! Nothing between us and God, our faces
shining with the brightness of his face. And so we are transfigured much
like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful as
God enters our lives and we become like him.
TLB 2 Kor 3:16 But whenever anyone turns to the
Lord from his sins, then the veil is taken away. 17 The Lord is the Spirit who gives them life,
and where he is there is freedom from trying to be saved by keeping the laws of
God.[a] 18 But
we Christians have no veil over our faces; we can be mirrors that brightly
reflect the glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us,
we become more and more like him.
